   This is a 9 minute short from New Zealand about two schoolboys and a man in short shorts who deliver glass bottles of milk.

   It is wholesome, sincere, and grounded, yet it has several over the top moments. Like an animation of the van turning into a spaceship. Or a cat knocking a bottle off a wall.

   It ends on a note that soon people will be able to buy milk from grocery stores, leaving the kids (and the viewer) as witnesses to the end of an era.

4. Nika

   This 2020 movie - currently on Amazon - is just something...else? 🤣 It’s about a woman that appears to be in her mid-twenties that is an “aging model” who has to turn to stripping and then escorting so that she can pay off the credit card debt she acquired paying for “everything” for her and her boyfriend. Said boyfriend leaves her within the first 5-10 minutes during some sort of an attempt at a montage. The flashbacks and her dreams had me rolling! It seems that she was in some sort of series of singing/dance/piano classes with a 10, 12, 15, and 17 year old. When each of her teachers basically tell her that she is horrible in turn, she determinedly states that she’s going to be a model instead! The preposterousness of the entire movie and just the random things like, why is she walking along the LA Streets for possibly hours but then she has a car... And if she has a plush fur coat - that she wears out walking when others are in tank tops - why can’t she sell that to pay her rent?

   I'm watching this right now, and my brain hurts. There are aliens. Mobsters. FBI agents. An Elvis clone that looks nothing like Elvis. And an Elvis impersonator competition featuring all new songs written for the King, which tells me the producers couldn't afford music rights.

8. [Nickname for Richard] Deadeye, Or, Duty Done (1975)

   This very weird animated feature from 1975 takes the following tack:

   1. Take the most well-known operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan (along with a few of their lesser-known ones) and throw their plots and characters in a blender.
   2. Turn what comes out into an animated musical.
   3. Get British cartoonist Ronald Searle, who has a broadly caricaturist style, to design it and oversee the animation.
   4. Re-write most of the lyrics and arrange them in an EXTREMELY 1970s pop style.
   5. Somehow expect this to appeal to people.

   It's not that the idea of a Gilbert-and-Sullivan-themed animated musical is BAD in and of itself...if it had focused on adapting a single work, and had a more appealing visual style. (Ronald Searle's style is very good for newspaper cartoons, illustrations, and the opening credits of the movie musical Scrooge, but in animation, it looks ugly and off-putting.) Plus, throwing Every. Single. Gilbert. And. Sullivan. Character. EVER. into the same plot, not to mention cobbling together said plot from all these different works, makes the whole thing look entirely too overstuffed. It's amazing that Bill Melendez, who directed the Peanuts specials which are known for being simple and straightforward, helmed THIS. And those 1970s orchestrations...ai-yi-yi!!! (Unfortunately, this wasn't the last time G & S would be warped onscreen...The Pirate Movie came along seven years later.)
