2. Boo! (1980 variety special)

   This hour-long Canadian variety show is very nearly the Halloween equivalent of The Star Wars Holiday Special. At least it has its share of cheesy, dated charm, and unlike the SWHS, it doesn't pretend to be anything more than a variety show (no flimsy plot to link the songs and sketches together). It was filmed for Canadian TV in 1980 (when some remnants of the 1970s were still hanging on--hence, the disco-ish theme song and overall 70s-ness of it all). But it was shown on American TV a few times in the early 80s--the link I've provided was from a 1982 Chicago airing, and I'm pretty sure I saw it on Philadelphia-area TV, one Saturday or Sunday afternoon, in 1983.

   The premise: the classic Universal monsters, along with a slew of assorted aliens and BEMs, do a variety show full of comedy sketches and a song or two. (Dracula makes a wisecrack early on about variety being "dead", which made it the perfect vehicle for an undead host.) Most of the jokes are sub-dad jokes or so dated they barely make sense now, and there's even a somewhat homophobic joke--you know, for kids!--with two robots who didn't know the other one was male.

   Of course, you can't have a variety show without guest stars, and this one delivers--Dionne Warwick performs her then-recent hit "Deja Vu" (and pretty well, too) and Rip Taylor shows up for his usual brand of "comedy"--confetti and all.

   There's also one other semi-familiar face (or, at least, voice)...the Wolf Man is played by Peter Cullen, best known as a voice actor and the voice of Optimus Prime. (He is, after all, Canadian.)

   This show's overall cheesiness and datedness should provide LOADS of riffing fodder--certainly, the riffs would be funnier than most of the jokes! After all, you've shown you're good at lampooning 1970s Halloween specials with The Night Dracula Saved The World...

3. Mouseketeers at Walt Disney World

   I can't even begin to describe how odd this one-hour special is on Disney+. Let's see if I can list all the things it deserves to be riffed for:
   1) Terrible 70s outfits
   2) Situations that make you certain the director is on a list and has to introduce himself to the neighbors whenever he moves
   3) It's a blatant ad for both WDW and the 70s Mickey Mouse Club that lasted one season
   4) Several of the kids don't know the songs they're singing
   5) Cliched jokes that were cliches even then
   6) Original 1977 commercials (just like the Star Wars Holiday Special!)
   7) A polka number involving Winnie the Pooh

   2001 Maniacs is a 2005 American comedy horror film directed by Tim Sullivan and starring Robert Englund, Lin Shaye, Jay Gillespie, Dylan Edrington, and Matthew Carey. It is a remake of the 1964 film Two Thousand Maniacs! written and directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis. ... It's SO BAD you can't look away. The lines are already terrible, begging to be riffed!

6. Lone Ranger Cartoon Shorts (Format Films, 1966)

   In 1966, Format Films released a series of cartoon shorts starring The Lone Ranger and Tonto. These were quite interesting, if unusual. You see, many of these seemed to have strong steampunk elements...obviously influenced by the then-contemporary The Wild Wild West. (There was even a semi-recurring villain who was a little person--Tiny Tom--lifted clean from TWWW's Dr. Loveless.) There were heat rays, human dynamos, mechanical monsters, portals to prehistoric times, lost dinosaur valleys...that kind of thing.

   So this is a rather unusual take on the Lone Ranger mythos. (A later Filmation cartoon series, from 1980, was far more realistic, often dealing with historical figures or situations.) But this did have its charm, despite the steampunk/sci-fi/fantasy elements fitting somewhat uneasily with the masked man's environment. The animation, though limited by television budgets, was rather innovative and atmospheric. The voice work was terrific. And Tonto, despite having the broken English he wouldn't lose until the 1980 cartoon, had some solo outings and was always depicted as smart and resourceful.

   One YouTube DIY riffer--Josh Way of Fun With Shorts--has been doing riffs of these. But plenty of DIY riffers have done shorts that you guys have covered (and vice versa), and who's to say that as good a job as Josh does, you couldn't outdo him?

11. Band of the Hand

    Imagine, if you will, John Wayne's The Cowboys, only in the 80's inner city, and instead of The Duke, a possibly-psychotic Vietnam vet played by a committed Stephen Lang. It's got this bizarre uber-macho Boy Scout logic where he teaches young punks to improve their lives through community outreach and automatic weapons. It feels like the most violent after-school special ever.

18. My Demon Lover

    The year was 1987. Family Ties was at what was arguably the height of its popularity. Everyone wanted to be part of the Keaton family and many young women (and some men!) wanted to date and/or sleep with Mallory's boyfriend, who was played with Scott Valentine. Seems like it's the perfect time to branch out into film, right?

    Enter My Demon Lover. (Pun not intended, but realized after that sentence.)

    What is this film about? Well, it's about a woman who has the worst taste in and luck with men. One guy dumps her for throwing herself a birthday party. Another makes her want to swear off guys forever. So what's a young woman in New York to do when a hunky and homeless street performer starts wooing her?

    Did you say take him home? If you did, then you win the prize. However gasp! The homeless guy turns into a demon when he gets a Mr. Happy! And he may be responsible for killing umpteen young women! And he received his curse while he was playing "doctor" with one of his female schoolmates during middle school!

    With so much cringe and bad practical effects, this movie is just begging to be riffed. I think I like state street press's quote on this:

    "The demon lover hobo at the film’s center is a walking, breathing personification of street harassment, the kind of scummy cretin who must’ve scattered & disappeared when Giuliani cleaned up Times Square in the 1990s. "
