Filmation, who did this live-action series, also did an animated sequel in the mid-to-late eighties. Their releasing this at that particular time was the reason that OTHER Ghostbusters animated series of the late eighties was titled "The Real Ghostbusters."

What I love about this is the way that it takes the "OMG ALICE IN WONDERLAND WAS SO TOTALLY ABOUT DRUGS!!!" business that every teenager thinks they're so clever for coming up with and runs with it.

I first heard of this through Stephen King's non-fiction book Danse McBare...sorry...Danse Macabre, which was Uncle Stevie's run-down of various horror movies and books and what made them work. He perpetuated the urban legend that the original last line of the film, after Milland's character ripped his eyes out, was "I CAN STILL SEE!!!", but Roger Corman himself has debunked that. However, Corman also said that it wasn't a half-bad idea at that, and that he wishes he'd thought of it!

This would be perfect. On the one hand, it's got a genuinely creepy and compelling premise. On the other hand, it's a little TOO faithful to the play in most ways--stagey acting from much of the original stage cast, devices like Leroy the gardener speaking his thoughts aloud in a soliloquy. Then there's that ending--changed to comply with the Hayes Code and very much at odds with the rest of the movie.

My God, with the animation errors and the utterly baffling adaptation choices, this would make for a field day! To say nothing of the abrupt ending because of a Part 2 that was never made...

There are two dubs for this...one of them uses the voices of Pam Dawber, Chris Atkins and David Hemmings. Unlike the other dub, in this one Prince Siegfried doesn't sound like he's twelve.

These would be apropos given that the wolf and skunk characters from the Santa's Village of Madness shorts show up in it. The funny thing is, a fan-made continuation of MST3K did a riff of it--and a good one, too: http://www.mft3k.com/episodes/F01/index.html. (There's a link to watch it there as well.) But you've done movies and shorts that have been riffed by MST3K and others (there are several fan-made riffs of A Visit To Santa, f'r'ex), so maybe you could outdo it?
