2. Death Race (2008)

   A remake of Roger Corman's Death Race 2000, but it's actually close to being Twisted Metal the Movie... minus Calypso and Sweet Tooth. David Carradine stars in both Death Race 2000 and this remake, but he's a brief cameo via voice over at the beginning.

   Robin Shou also stars in it, but as a side character known as 14K. Mortal Kombat jokes are allowed, Riffers.

3. Electric Dreams (1984)

   A bizarre little film with current relevance since folks are talking a lot about AI. In this movie, and I use that term loosely, an architect competes with an 80's era AI for a woman's affections. Weird on many levels, it kind of foreshadows modern phones and tablets.

7. The Mole People

   In the tradition of such films as Plan 9 From Outer Space and Reefer Madness, this film starts with an introduction. In this case we get a lecture about hollow Earth theory. You can actually see the point where the lecturer becomes self conscious about his hands. From the multiple times he indicates the roundness of the Earth to the two seconds he puts his hands on his lapel he is a ballet of fidgety.
   Then the movie starts which, it turns out, has absolutely nothing to do with a hollow Earth. Instead it's about a civilization that has grown over thousands of years underground in caves and tunnels.
   The heroes of the movie are Beaver's dad and Shirley Temple's husband. Plenty of good stuff to riff (what kind of mushrooms are these people eating anyway?). Most of the underground denizens are extremely white (Johnny and Edger Winter would notice they were pale) with a few throwbacks that look like us. If you limit "us" to being fashion models (and beautiful ones, at that).
   The ending is the best part. The two heroes escape with one of the throwbacks, and she gets to see the outside world for the first time. Of course, they come out high in the mountains so all she can see that's different from what she's used to is a bit of sky and some dead tufts of grass, but she finds it beautiful. John Agar explains to her that she hasn't seen anything yet. Then there's an earthquake and a pillar falls on her and kills her. I'm not sure what message the film makers were aiming for. Maybe a Buddhist message that life is suffering?

8. Double Blast

   I just discovered and watched a hidden gem on Youtube: "Double Blast." Can your heart stand... Joe Estevez and Robert Z'Dar in a kids' movie about martial arts kids (The Malcolm in the Middle older brother's real-life older brother + a Stephanie Tanner rip-off) trying to save Linda Blair, who has been kidnapped by Joe Estevez, a gentler Robert Z'Dar, and a guy who looks like a combination of Yanni, Tommy Chong, and Dave Grohl. Didn't catch the character's name, but the credits give some hope it might be Rotundo. If the Asylum existed at the time and tried to combine Home Alone, Karate Kid, and the Goonies, and could spend no more than $200 bucks, this is what they'd do.

   And then there's the star. Think Don "The Dragon" Wilson, except with fewer facial expressions (1) and even less charisma (none). He has a nickname, though: Dale "Apollo" Cook, who the credits assure us is a five-time world kickboxing champ.

   From what I’ve read about MST3K and Rifftrax’ process, this should be easily riffable- there’s plenty of pauses for riffs to be inserted effectively. The writing is strange (not James Nguyen strange, but strange enough.) By the end, everyone is kung fu fighting and an actor clearly wearing a sheet convinces Robert Z’Dar that he’s a ghost. This is not explained, and I don’t remember the ghost being mentioned earlier (it may have been, I’m sure I blacked out more than once).

   I’m sure I have found what could and should become a Rifftrax classic; I sincerely hope some folks will check this out and join me in appreciating this description-defying doozie.

13. Black Samurai (1976)

    A 1976 film starring Jim Kelly... that does not have any Samurais in it. It is however chaos incarcerate with everything that appears in the film.

    Here's the Riff package: kung-fu, a mariachi band, a vulture, a jet-pack, a sassy black woman, cool sound effects, a car-chase, and random explosions. Also, there's Santanic Worship, a secret agent organization, a fire-spouting pen, snakes, afros, a scene where the good guy kills tons of badguys with a grenade because why not dammit.

    Checks off a majority of the features a Blaxploitation film would have. Makes one wonder if Pam Grier, the original action girl, was approached for a part in the film and she turned it down. Imagine... a film with William and Coffy fighting crime together... with all of the above listed.

    This insanely crazy movie about Marco Polo Stars Desi Arnaz Jr as Marco Polo and Zero Mostel as Genghis Khan. AND it's a musical!! It is as absolutely insane as it sounds. Watch the trailer for this bloated turkey and it will rise to the top of your list.
    
    If Desi Arnaz Jr and zero mostel aren't enough, there's a whole bit about Marco Polo inventing spaghetti with Jack Weston (yes, of Willy Wonka), and then there's the fact it was filmed at Toho Studios but is a Rankin-Bass production (live action!) It's just crazy. I'm kind of upset I'd never known about it till a few weeks ago.
    But shocked this has never been featured before. Just crazy.
