4. Tales of the Golden Monkey (T.V. Series)

   The 1970's was a big era for cheesy T.V. Ask anybody! But this one took the cake! A man and his dog with an eye patch (as well as some other weird characters) search for a giant gold monkey - really! In an old episode of Johnny Carson, Johnny was talking about the T.V. show line up for the year. This was on the list (under a different name). When he read the plot, he joked about how dumb the dog with an eye patch sounded. Even then it was odd!

5. Shin Godzilla - aka Godzilla Resurgence (2016)

   We recently had the pleasure of seeing this reboot in the theater. The saying goes, third time's a charm right? Well, seeing as how this is Toho's third reboot of the Godzilla franchise, this movie is mighty charming.

   Much of this movie is spent going through government rigamarole. I felt as though 2 thirds of this movie was meetings with government workers in a bevy of fancied up rooms (and matching speedsuits!). This clip justly supports that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaOYh6fq4xc

   One question, why the heck don't we have cool slides to escape danger from...wouldn't this make the whole need for single file obsolete? These people look happy to be running from danger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgyq6YKeIms

   When you first meet Godzilla, when you aren't sure what the heck you are looking at, he has some wacky eyes. They look like crazy googly eyes. Seriously, I think it was looking into my soul but it was drunk...what is it looking at? See clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHlbHer8r9g

   I would say there are plenty of opportunities in this film where someone could really help Godzilla communicate. It became clear to me he had more to say often gesturing with his hand/claws. Maybe he has the motivational skills of Anthony Robbins? Will we ever know?

   Godzilla spoke to me in this film...he's a fan...he wants you to riff away...just...riff.........away...

    Here's the basic plot: A pack of money-grabbing, extremely rich and attractive relatives (the Ferretti's) are trying to take over their ailing uncle's industrial empire.

    The pack is led by Maurizio Ferretti (Billy Zane), a rich, very savy and attractive million dollar playboy. His main goal is to take over the family's million dollar business while his Uncle Leo is dying in a hospital somewhere. And how does he plan on doing this? Black-mailing his father, sleeping w/ numerous women and being an all around money hungry, scheming jerk!

    Lauren Hutton plays Cristina, Uncle Leo's estranged wife who seems to be the only one staying at his bedside. Carol Alt plays the beautiful (censored)/wild child/bad seed niece who can't seem to keep her clothes on or get her life on track. Alexandra Paul plays the promiscuous, (censored), seductive, cold-hearted sister in-law.

    The plot is okay, but aside from the characters listed above, the acting is bad, real bad. And even though this movie was released in 1991, the bad hair, music and fashion looks like something out of a mid 80's TV prime-time soap (think Falcon Crest).

    Even with talent like Hutton, Zane & Alt, nothing can save us from the cheap quality, cheesy soundtrack, blah acting, and bad ending. If you have a hour or so to kill and don't mind seeing Billy Zane sleep with a bunch of women, including his cousin, his sister in law, and his dad's mistress or watching a bunch of rich spoiled people plot, whine, and (censored) each other - then go for it. I'm sure the pain will go away... the memory is another story.

    A couple of middle class parents, want to take their normal mild mannered teenage kids on a nice little vacation. What could go wrong?
    Running into crazy out-of-control teenagers with souped up hot rods, living just to cause chaos and mayhem. That's what could go wrong. Some high octane riffing is sorely needed here. What say you riffers?

20. Parasite (1982)

    We just finished watching this most heinous of movies. Less than 2 minutes into this movie, I said, "I wonder if they've riffed this?" This movie calls out for Bill, Kevin and Mike's betterment program. We meet a very young Demi Moore. A man who can't seem to pronounce Patricia correctly. A lady with way too much time on her hands clearly waiting around for some hunk of meat to come and "make her day." While she waits, she spends her days reliving kindergarten dress up showing she didn't learn much between now and then about make up application. This seems to be in the future and yet it isn't? Water in cans?

    The scary creature featured in this fine cinematic feature moves using (say it like Spongebob) our imagination! I mean, you see it, then it's over there...how did it get there? As the movie pushes forward, you are left, like so many other riffed wonders, wondering when the hell you can get off this ride b/c you'd much rather Space Mountain than It's a Small World. There are bullies in here with no rhyme or reason. One carrying a knife Crocodile Dundee would love to compare notes with. The main character looks like Fred Stoller.
