Out of this World (GM short)
A 1964 short from GM on the world (and yet another kitchen) of the future! Raze the rainforest for crops! Don't go around mountains, drill through them! Mine the ocean floor! Cook unrecognizable lumps in minutes in your dream oven!

Ultraman (1960's series)
The 1960's dubbed Japanese series with the Science Patrol (Hayata, Fuji, etc.) Each episode was like 30 minutes. The orange outfits with the matching ties are reason enough to riff on it.

Coke Marketing Video
Southern boys pushing Coke...the soda. Banjo music, can turning, this short has it all, except for organ noodling.

Are You Listening
A horrifying giant mouth teaches horrifying giant ears about the importance of listening to directions. There's also weird superfluous footage of animals in a zoo, because why not?

Garlic is as Good as Ten Mothers
It's 51 minute foodie documentary from 1980 (and it looks it too).
It's a love story to garlic (which as depicted wasn't really a big trend in the US back in the 1970s and earlier if you believe the talking heads).
One talking head mentions that he believes that vampires are real. Werner Herzog also makes a cameo.
Lots of dialogueless food prep providing plenty of space for riffing.

Mission Possible - Bike Safety
It's an educational short about bicycle safety made in the style of the old Mission Impossible TV show.

This short film was produced and directed by J. Larry Carroll, who also wrote episodes for shows like G.I. Joe and Diagnosis Murder.17 votes -
The Finishing Line
This is a seriously F***ed up British PSA about children playing on railroad tracks. This kid daydreams about holding his own Olympics on a train crossing. Dozens of children get killed. It's both horrifying and surreal.

German Forklift safety training video
Very over-the-top German forklift safety training video that really drives the point home. Very dark humor. German with English subtitles, but they're really not necessary, as you can figure out what's going on without them.
Enjoy...

"A Touch of Magic" https://archive.org/details/TouchofM1961
"A Touch of Magic" is the MPO produced, GM financed sequel to "Design for Dreaming." Nuvena herself , Thelma "Tad" Tadlock stars in it once again, and it is just as bonkers. 1961.

Habit Patterns
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GTBMGUUz6I&t=3s
One of the most depressing shorts I've ever seen - this is up in Social Acceptability or The Snob territory, and I've been wanting to see Maryjo and Bridget take this one on. Basically a narrator berates this hapless girl for 15 minutes because she doesn't wash her clothes, get up on time, or take interest in books.

Kudzu Zombies
This movie is a zombie classic...with a good amount of holes and interesting ideas to have the riffers take advantage of it

The Moody Institute, who did the Carnivorous Plants short, put out a similar short about the electric eel, featuring the same weird guy poking an eel and shocking people

Video games Cut scenes
Riffing the cut scenes of big name current video games. From Destiny and Halo to Grand Theft Auto and Assassins Creed. A compilation would be just great I think.

The Nutshack
I'm not sure if this counts as a short, it's a TV show, but I couldn't find a TV show suggestion function. So anyway, this is one of the worst cartoons ever made, and I think you could get some material out of this.

Dating Do's And Don'ts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxBOSdl-b54
The lead character's name is Woody. There are probably at least ten good jokes in that alone. One of those dating etiquette shorts that offers divergent time lines in how to choose, ask for, and end a date

The Boy Who Liked Deer
A mid 70s cautionary tale of bad crowds and vandalism. In the late 1980s, this was aired to all the 3rd graders in our class, and may well be one of the best cases of nightmare fuel for a young child to see.
I don't know if this could be made funny, but I'd love to see what could be done with it27 votes -
The American Heart Association's current BLS (Basic Life Saving) video
There are various skits with live actors about someone who becomes unresponsive and needs CPR, only when the actor or actress actually starts doing CPR, the person in need of help is switched out for a mannequin, which is suddenly wearing the person's clothes and and is in the same position the person was just in! This effect was especially creepy for the baby- CPR skit. Our entire class was laughing so hard it hurt!
