Lot's of wait, what is reality? Elements of Matrix, 13 Floor, House of Leaves, and all with less body horror than even Nightbreed.

4. The Hill and the Hole

   The Hill and the Hole (2019) has everything: an incomprehensible plot that veers wildly from boring to bizarre, terrible effects, terrible acting, inconsistent (or nonexistent) character development, and a deep desire to be SiGnIfIcAnT, at which it completely fails. It's not scary and it's not funny. It tries to be both? I guess?

   It's about a surveyor/archaeologist who is trying to figure out why a big mound in the southwest reads as a deep hole on his surveying equipment instead. That premise is really cool! Unfortunately, what follows is so random and meaningless that I don't think "confusing" describes it accurately. There are murderous ranchers, a chain-smoking, fried-dough-maker-turned-cultist, and a massive red laser pointer that keeps trying to blind viewers. A lot of people also eat dirt, and I mean that literally, not that they faceplant into the ground.

   I've never seen a movie in such desperate need of a professional riffing.

   He's a genie in a bottle, you'd better rub him the right way or he'll kill you!!! Yes, this film features a genie whose master is killed and so latches on to a girl and promptly goes on a kill spree with every intention of killing the girl's father because, oops, she wished him dead...and to think, she could of had a pony.

9. Dagon (2001)

   This movie has good effects as it is done by Stuart Gordon; however, along with those special effects we also get a whiny hero, failure all around by the good guys and an icky reveal revolving around the 'hero' and the strange girl with the fish bottom half! Totally not a terrible movie, but one that would make for an awesome Rifftrax!

12. Hansel and Gretel (1954)

    This puppet-animated movie isn't based so much on the Grimm fairy tale as on the opera version by Englebert Humperdinck. (No, not THAT Englebert Humperdinck.) It features the music from the opera, alternating between spoken dialogue and arias in English, adapted from the German libretto. (At least one legitimate opera star, Anna Russell, provided a voice--she plays the witch.)

    The story's altered a little bit, as it was in the original opera. Hansel and Gretel aren't abandoned in the woods through the machinations of a stepmother out to kill them--their otherwise loving mother loses her temper at a kitchen accident and sends them to pick berries in the woods and get out of her hair for a while, where they get lost and fall into the witch's hands. There are some lovely bits with the Sandman, a Dew Fairy, and a chorus of angels.

    Michael Myerberg, the director, animated this with "kinemins"--puppets operated by electricity. The miniature sets are detailed and enchanting...but the puppets themselves look rather weird, without the winsomeness you'd usually find in, say, the Rankin-Bass figures. There are also some head-scratching moments, such as when the household furniture comes alive to dance with Hansel and Gretel.

    It does have some elements to recommend it--the beautiful score from the opera, for one, and Lord knows I'm all about introducing kids to classical music. But it's also got enough whacked-out elements to balance it.

14. Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout

    After a nice shower, Linnea does some warm-up stretches and then goes for a run. She encounters some flabby zombies who follow her back to the house, where she leads them in some poolside aerobic routines. Later she unwinds by inviting some girlfriends over for a slumber party and some exercise. When something goes bump in the house, her friends begin experiencing an attrition problem.

15. The Villian

    Just like a roadrunner cartoon, including Kirk Douglas painting a tunnel opening on a wall! All star cast, low budget movie. Includes Jane Fonda and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold plays a character called Handsome Stranger (he was named after his father). Love this hard to find movie!

16. Blood of the chupacabras

    The plot is very convoluted and all over the place, it has something to do with vampires and vampire hunters and treasure hunters and an ancient volcano and stuff.

    The acting, filming and special effects are all laughable and terrible, pretty sure it was shot on vhs. Lighting is a strange and unusual concept to the director.

    The cast keeps expanding. At least ten people converge on the final encounter and none of them really need to be there. It’s a script that got completely out of control and they still bothered to shoot it. I love this movie.

    Terrorist Norman "Slash" Galagher is turned into a hologram, escapes, and commits crimes. As a hologram. And the only way to stop him is for Kurt Decoda, the cop who put him away, to also become a hologram. Includes terrible acting, incredible(y bad) hair, cheap effects, and sci-fi concepts that are completely wasted.
