2. The Shining (1997)

   So Stephen King thinks this 90 minute TV adaptation with TV's "Wings" star Steven Weber is a better film than Kubricks's masterpiece? I think it's long overdue he be taken down a notch. It has my award for "Most Random Casting": Rebecca De Mornay, Elliot Gould, Sam Raimi, Miguel Ferrer, Melvin Van Peebles, and of course, King himself (absolutely no ego in that). In television terms, it is a high budget (for the time) delight in failure. Let's see if we can celebrate that in the best way we know how!

3. The Revenge of the Teenage Vixens From Outer Space (1985)

   Pulling this out of the Fangarian Cauldron of Alphabet Soup Titles, this bizarre piece emerges from 1985. Though actually a spoof in itself, this B-Movie definitely deserves riffing for a plethora of reasons galore, but since the requirement here requires I give three good reasons (not to mention including a link and a photo), I'll just have to settle on this:

   (1) The genre-hybrid/mash-up spoof: What can I say? This production came from Canada (I'm presuming, since this was also a direct-to-video/late night production), and apparently in the 80s, it was a trend to create spoofs of: Slasher films, horny teens (or young adults masquerading as teens) films, and alien films. Though Teenage Vixens have no slashers in this flick, the producers decided on combining the horny teens with sexy aliens in this one. But if you're expecting body-snatching, mind control or even full out invasion, you can sort of forget it as this comes off as a really-bad plot you'd see in an Archie Comic (though I believe Archie and the Gang could've pulled this one off a whole lot better). The problem with this is when you attempt to do this, things can unexpectedly go wrong from the get go. Especially when your 'mean girl' strangely resembles the shoplifting chick from the short, 'The Myths About Shoplifting.'

   (2) The bizarre plot which makes as much sense as Fun in Balloonland. No seriously, I kid you not. Here's the spiel, Famille: While our teenage troupe is out at a poor-man's version of Inspiration Point, their fun (if you call having the girls being bitches to one another, and a douche drinking beer and hitting on everyone fun) is interrupted by the arrival of some hot chicks. Danny says the most Captain Obvious thing: 'Wow, they must not be from around here.' Hey, Sherlock, what tipped you off? Certainly not their space-age, yet skimpy outfits, or the mysterious fog protruding from behind. (Now, I've always pondered this: do aliens in every flick from the 80s have a backfog machine. I mean seriously, because EVERY time they show something extraterrestrial, they are surrounded by fog.. EVEN in the daytime..) Anyway, the deal is that the Vixens have arrived not because their planet is dying, nor that they need men, as the summary in IMDB claims, but instead due to a mishap with a Teen Magazine being sent to the wrong address. One of the main characters, Mia, discovers this when the Vixens actually comes to her house and hands her the magazine, asking to explain it (although they're aliens, they're unusually polite aliens). Meanwhile the other main lead, Pete, has always felt he has been different in some way, but they don't dwell on this much. Instead the Vixens decide from the magazine that Earth is full of horny, experienced men. In fact one attempts to get together with Pete's dad, who's a teacher at Maxfield High. Anyway, as expected the Vixens find out the magazine's a lie, the boys here are virgins, and the mean girl riles them up. Now, like I said, you'd think because these Vixens are aliens, they would retaliate by performing mind control on the guys, or even using 'brain sex' from 'Wonder Women,' but no.. get this... they get pissed and start transforming everyone into vegetables... yes, you have to see this to believe it. Meanwhile, Mia and Pete have their own romantic thing, despite the fact their friends have now become walking salad bars, and it is discovered that Pete wears a strange medallion and possess odd powers... well, if you call flipping over his medallion telekinetically as 'powers.' Then we discover that these Vixens had accidentally landed on Earth before, years earlier due to a mishap with the Elvis Presley broadcast from Ed Sullivan. Apparently while we saw the top half, they saw the bottom half (hey, Elvis and aliens, just work with it!). Not only that but the Vixen Queen (who was just a plain Vixen then) had mated with Pete's Dad, and Pete is her son.. of course, she wants no part of her son's life, now that's she's queen (oh.. lade-DAH). The only reason she came was to warn Pete's Dad about the Vixens here and that they are angry because Earth males were NOT what they were expecting (like what? All the Vixens are suddenly on their period? Apologies, I know.. but with this film you have to wonder.). Meanwhile, Mia and Pete discover this when Danny gets caught by a Vixen, and Danny gets transformed into a cucumber..(not sure if that's a metaphor for Danny being a dick throughout the whole film, but hey..). Making matters worse, the mean Shoplifter girl riles up the whole town against the Vixens (good luck with that..)...

   Now here's where either they ran out of money for the budget, or the producers were like, 'You know this thing's dying worse than Manos.. let's just wrap it up with it being like some bad newsreel announcement with the Vixens turning every city into vegetables, then having them attack that mean Shoplifting girl.' 'For being mean to the Vixens?' 'No, for being stupid and getting caught at the end of that Shoplifting short..' And you know what, that's EXACTLY what they do! As a result the Queen with Pete and his Dad decide to have a confrontation with the Vixens..... and, well, let's just say the ending's not exactly what you really expect.

   (3) Breaking the Fourth Wall: Rarely do you see films do this for the most part, but in several spots, you do see the characters talk to the audience about some of the stupid situations the film has put them in. Especially when the Queen explains the situation of her homeworld to her son, Pete and his father.

   Overall, this is one of those late night flicks that really deserves to be riffed for the fact it starts out partially okay, then leaves you wanting more (more, as in, why did they even make this film, and just exactly what where the producers smoking when they pitched this idea to get green-lighted by some studio in Canada?). And because it's officially public domain (the full movie is on YouTube), it would be easy to VOD, or even do it as a RiffTrax Live. This one is a classic next to Manos, Hands of Fate.. in fact, after you watch this one, Manos and Torgo will start to look pretty good to you...

   80's cyborg/cyperpunk movie. One of those movies where they speak English, but a large part of the actors are Italian.

   I remember this movie well from my childhood. It was one of the very first movies we had on VHS at home. Must have seen it several times every week during my childhood. I think it could be a good title for the Rifftrax library.

11. The Ninja Immovable Heart

    It's just spectacular. First of all the cast: DANNY GLOVER is the headliner for this movie, yet he spends the entire thing reading line that legitimately sound like he was still questioning the script. Then there's Rob Baard, the director and main actor of this flick. Then Roger Neave, who looks like every old actor you just can't place the name of but sounds like he's got Alzheimers. The plot takes place in about three present day scenes, flashbacks from 10 hours ago, 11 hours ago, 10 years ago and a few extras. It flows as well as flushing a box of rocks. The acting is all over the place, at one point the lead roars at dead people for about 6 seconds. There's just so much to say. The only issue is I don't think our Riffers could keep up with it.

12. Demonicus (2001)

    Can a rubber Halloween helmet really allow the soul of a Roman gladiator with a 5 word vocabulary to possess a waify teenager? Can it force him to chop up his horny friends and turn them into a watery, bone-filled stew, or at the very least squirt red corn syrup into their eyes? Can it enable him to comically trot after people fleeing full-sprint and still catch them anyway?
    I bought this movie because, although it is not a comedy, it is hilarious. I would LOVE to see you guys tear it to pieces!

15. 3 Dev Adam (3 Mighty Men)

    This film is considered one of the holy grails of bad Turkish remakes. In Turkey (Istanbul, to be exact), Spider Man (or maybe a grandmother's version of Spider Man) is the leader of a violent criminal organization while Santo, Captain America and his girlfriend Julia are out to stop it. With a brilliant needle-dropped score, low (or no) budget production values and the fact that this film is not even in English, I think Rifftrax could pull of a hilarious translation of it (based on what they see, of course. I don't really expect them to learn Turkish).

19. Interface (1985)

    This slasher-vigilante/RPG amalgam is, like "The Final Sacrifice," a student film, but the cast is much bigger and the writing and acting is much worse. The protagonist isn't quite as stalwart as the guy from "Timechasers." Some of the least convincing cops in bad movie history appear. There's a built-in callback to "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank." There are eight masked villains and nine masks. And the prominence of 1980s computer technology should be a great source of geek humor. Besides, otherwise it has no hope at all of making it onto DVD.
