The X From Outer Space
Saw this on Hulu subtitled, but if you could find a dubbed version, this Kaiju flick from the 60s, puts all the Godzilla and Gamera flicks you've riffed to shame.
Somewhere in a futuristic Japan (hey, why not), a team attempts to go on yet ANOTHER mission to Mars, because for some MYSTERIOUS reason, the previous missions have failed to reach their destination. Rather than just stay home on Earth, they try it again... I mean what possibly could go wrong?
Basically amongst the swinging 60s track, the team comes across a UFO who 'seeds' their ship with spores, and has them temporarily land on the Moon at a base (yeah, how convenient, eh?). Of course the film deviates a bit with some soap opera stuff, because THAT always builds excitement in this Kaiju films, eh?
Anyhoo, after being refueled and pondering briefly about the strange ship that almost collided with them, they go back for Mars, until a spore causes a hull breach faster than Crow digging through the Satellite of Love. Making some swift repairs, they discover the spores and decide to extract some from the ship and bring it back to Earth.
Hey, strange space spores, Earth.. oh, yes, NOTHING harmful can happen from this can it? Before anyone can realize it, the spore instantly mutate into a bad chicken-footed (no kidding) monster which rampages the city of Toyko (man, you'd think they're insurance premiums would be astronomical with all these monsters crashing the place..), spewing out fireballs and such...
Anyway, this one is definitely a fun film to riff, that is if you can find a dubbed version of it, I would love Mike, Bill & Kevin take a stab at this one...

This is an AWESOME movie for you to work on. The space ship looks like a clown vehicle, the sub-plots are silly ... the heroes save the day with a truly suicidal act if you think about it. The whole thing BEGS for your special touch!

Don't let the fact that few people know about this slow you down. Find it - watch it - this is a treasure trove!

Imagine a Japanese version of Moon Zero Two; a slightly dull, cheesy would-be space epic with a 60's aesthetic and a bizarre swing/jazz soundtrack. That is until around the midpoint of the film where Tokyo gets savaged by a giant space turkey with deely-boppers on his head. Somehow, this lovely ball of WTF warranted Criterion release.

This is a rare gem - people are missing out on the fun this could be, especially when you count the giant fruits, "artificial water" ( no kidding ), and people who expose themselves to lethal levels of radioactivity faster than you can shout "STERILE!"

I remember reading about this movie once. Apparently, the Japanese film company that made this specialized in softcore adult films and gangster movies IIRC (or was that the makers of Gappa?)
