This is such a great description of that weird category of childhood movies you remember fondly until you revisit them years later and realize just how chaotic they actually were.
The combination of pirates, treasure hunting, questionable acting, and Ernest Borgnine showing up briefly sounds like perfect riff material. Sometimes the most entertaining part of an old movie is seeing how badly it has aged.
I’m a big fan of simple adventure and treasure-themed entertainment in general, whether it’s old movies like this or quick browser games on https://bunagames.com/ when I want something lighter.
Definitely sounds like one of those “so bad it becomes fun” movies.
This could actually be a really fun format. Big-budget games often take their cutscenes extremely seriously, which gives you plenty to work with when the dialogue gets overly dramatic, the exposition goes on forever, or a character delivers something unintentionally funny.
A compilation covering games like Halo, Destiny, GTA, and Assassin’s Creed could work especially well because the tone changes so much from one franchise to another.
I spend a lot of time around games through BunaGames "https://bunagames.com/", and it’s always interesting how much personality a game can build through its cutscenes before the player even gets back to the gameplay.
I’d definitely watch a riff compilation like this.
