As I understand, this movie (from 1980) is somewhat autobiographical for Mr. Diamond- he wanted to rock out (Cherry Baby) but his strict Jewish upbringing and mainly his father forbaded him his one dream!

My favorite Niel Diamond, Laurence Oliver, Lucy Arnaz collaboration of all time! I love this movie and it rivals only Fiddler on the Roof in it's ethnicity- most everything I know about Judaism comes from this film! Aside from an unfortunate black face scene it really isn't that bad a movie- would love to see it riffed
