I've not seen the film edit, but the Flash Gordon serials are a blast! I'd love to see a riff of either the full serials or the film edit. Spaceships on a string special effects, beefcake battles, a monster in a rubber suit -- what's not to love?

Yes! I love these. Like proto-Star Wars. Emperor Ming and his men are repeatedly and easily outwitted by Buster Crabbe's earnest Flash Gordon. The men all wear tights with little undies on top. For some reason Dale Arden is always in a full-length evening gown no matter what they're doing. Dr Zarkov can apparently invent anything in about 5 minutes. The SFX are actually pretty good considering how old these films are. Better than some low-budget movies from decades later. Classic yet ridiculous.
