MST3K : The Return (a Netflix HORiginal)
Perhaps I'm being biased because I love Mike Nelson and the Bots so much (Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett) BUT, c'mon!!! MST3K : The Return is awful.
- there's nothing funny (or evil) about the new 'evil, mad scientists' on the return version. who did the hiring?!!
- the riffs are rehearsed and STILL not as funny as the improved material.
- they seem to be riding on the success of the old show. new crew has no talent of their own to add to the brand.
I just can't watch -unless.... queue in Nelson and the crew!!!

From the trailers I saw, they did use too many effects and stuff. Keep it simple and funny. That's all.

Does anyone else think they should have cast Ray as the villain and Day as the subject? He's got the awkward, misfit vibe like the original Dr. Forester, whereas she has the cute, naive Minnesotan charm to her, like Mike.
The riffing is definitely not as smart as the old show or Rifftrax, but if they switched the personnel around I think the host segments would have been watchable.
Then ditch the annoying and unnecessary special effects, and use that money to hire riff-writers who actually understand film so we can hear some satirical critique of the directing, not just juvenile chatter.

I had low hopes for this, since Cinematic Titanic was so awful. The new MSTs were just as bad. It's like the actors are just reading the jokes. There is no delivery to give the jokes punch. It's like they are just sitting in a studio somewhere reading the jokes off, and not watching the movie.
They poured so much unnecessary money into this series. Less production costs, and better writers. The fans are here and wanting another MST, but we need it to be funny. I watched 4 of the new MSTs before I gave up. I never chuckled once.

the reality is that mst3k was Joels baby, no matter who you liked more. There is plenty of room for new mst3k, rifftrax, the film crew and cinematic titanic. More power to ya, Joel! Wasnt my cup of tea either, but i encourage riffing virgins and vets alike to give it all a try. None of it is bad, i swear!

MST3k/RiffTrax has always said that they will not riff comedies. Plus, acting like Joel and the gang weren't funny either shows that you're not a true fan.

I've actually never watched this, because I don't think I could sit through NOT having Mike and the guys as riffers! It's all big dare, asking them to riff kinda their own baby, but it's worth a try!
