Wow, this sounds absolutely wild, and I mean that in the best way. I had heard the name Vegetable Soup before, but I never realized how strange it really was. After reading this, I can totally see why you think it would be perfect for RiffTrax.

Outerscope One alone sounds like comedy gold. Kids building a spaceship out of junk and launching it with baking soda and vinegar is already funny, but the idea that it somehow survives space makes it even better. The puppet style and thin messages really do feel like something Mike, Bill, and Kevin would have a field day with.

The animated singers coming back between segments sounds horrifying in a way that only 1970s kids’ TV could pull off. I can already imagine the riffs every time they show up again.

Nigel the boa constrictor might be the weirdest part to me. The fact that a kid casually owns a huge snake and brings it into everyday situations is insane. I also believe that kids watching this wanted pet snakes afterward—PBS really didn’t think that one through.

And Woody the Spoon voiced by Bette Midler? That alone feels like a deep-cut riff waiting to happen. The calm songs mixed with unsettling animation is exactly the kind of thing RiffTrax thrives on.

I agree with you about sticking to Season One. It sounds much stranger and more chaotic, which is usually where the best riffs come from. Overall, this is a great suggestion. If RiffTrax ever wants to prove that Fun in Balloonland isn’t the weirdest thing ever made, Vegetable Soup might be the answer.
