Known for its long production period as well as being one of the lowest grossing movies ever, with a cliched plot, ugly-as-sin characters and animation, and a comic relief voiced by Chris Kattan that is considered worse than Jar Jar Binks.

So this British curiosity based on a bedtime story features a medieval prince with magic powers who gets turned into a frog, grows to human size, and then travels to modern day London to be a secret agent with the voice of Ben Kingsley and do battle with his evil aunt. And there’s a villain song sung by Grace Jones that involves Nazi-esque henchmen and Klansmen marching around. I swear, I am not making this up. Animation critic and historian Jerry Beck has called it “an illustration on how NOT to make an animated film.” Also got a re-edited version narrated by James Earl Jones known as “Freddie The Frog”.

And like many movies that have been covered on MST3K/Rifftrax, it actually expected to get a sequel. No joke, a sequel called "Freddie Goes To Washington" was in production at the time of the first movie's release, but after that flopped big time, the sequel was cancelled and the animation studio went under. All that exists of the cancelled sequel are a few pencil tests that were posted online.

Since Mike, Kevin and Bill have riffed on "Merlin's Shop Of Mystical Wonders" twice, once for Mystery Science Theater 3000 and once for Rifftrax, they should consider riffing on director Kenneth J. Berton's other movie, "The Devil's Gift" from 1984. Part of it was actually re-edited into the second story of Merlin's Shop, but there were a lot of extra subplots and scenes that were cut out of that version, including the original ending in which everyone gets killed by the toy monkey. I think it's about time that Mike, Kevin, & Bill gave the full, un-Merlin'd movie a good riffing.
