Definitely because many were confused by this film for the fact it's narrated by Mickey Rooney, and the fact the villain here is not Professor Coldheart from the specials. Instead it's a spirit within a magic book (no fooling), who tricks a young boy into unleashing a spell that transforms people into careless jerks. The result causes havoc on Care-a-Lot, but they have hope for two children they were helping.
Two of the bears with the kids end up in the Forest of Feelings while using Grumpy's (bear not cat) teleporter. They all go to Earth and foil the spirit and save Nicholas.
Now for some interesting Riffing Trivia: An internet critic once noted how this film's plot, and its alleged sequel, ended up being suspiciously familiar to one another. This was due to the fact that the original film was inexplicably banned in the UK because (get this, the country that gave us Harry Potter) an evil spirit was considered 'too disturbing' for younger viewers.
So Columbia Pictures was commissioned with Nelvana to produce an 'alternate' movie with the Care Bears and the Care Bear Cousins, but this time the villain of the piece was a being calling himself Darkheart, who makes a bargain with a girl to help trap the Care Bear Family.
Nevertheless, when the North American film made so much in the box office, Nelvana and Columbia decided to release the UK version as 'The Care Bears Movie II: The Next Generation,' hoping most would think the film was a 'retooling' of the series.
Anyway, the film should be riffed just for the fact the film itself was rather odd for the fact they selected another antagonist than Coldheart.
