The Last Dragon
The Legendary Bruce Leroy can catch bullets with his teeth and he's got the glow. What else is there to say?

Sho Nuff's name feels like the answer of all questions when someone asks him how much he loves everything Japan. Seriously, his title is the Shogun of Harlem. Examples:
Does he take off his shoes before walking on carpet? Does he collect his favorite Anime figures? Does he wear the baddest Kimono anyone will ever see? Does he beat his futon to clean it?
All have one answer: Sho Nuff.

Why a prequel? Because of shonuff's first line in The Last Dragon about being back on the scene. That could be an opportunity to tell a story of sho losing the glow because of his character flaws, but then regaining the glow. Maybe he moves to New York, loses the glow similar to how Spider-Man lost his powers, goes back to Japan, regains the glow, then returns to New York.

How about naming this prequel "The Shogun"?

You should connect with Rza from the Wu-Tang Clan! I think he got the rights to produce this movie. How about making a prequel instead? Make the backstory all about how Shonuff was the chosen one (similar to darth vadar), and how he got the "glow". There are so many opportunities with going this route! You can even connect the first black samurai of Japan to shonuff as his lineage.
Off the top of my head, I'm thinking that the story continues after shonuff's defeat. This takes him back to his origin of Japan where he reconnects with his old sensei and vows to live out his days as a monk. Sho could be made to be seen as a highly respected and powerful samurai in Japan...even after his defeat because of his lineage to the first black samurai. This can be the Segway to shonuff reminiscing about how he got the glow:
sho was the product of a military family that got stationed in Japan, and he was born and raised as a military brat in Tokyo. Sho got the "glow" at a very early age because of his unbelievable strength, knowledge, and pure heart...like his ancestors. This can be seen as a blessing and a curse because as he got older, he was both adored and feared by even the toughest gangsters. This influenced sho to become somewhat of a bully. Nevertheless, sho always adored and respected his sensei. Sho began to run with the toughest Japanese gangs like the yasuka, though he never commits to one particular gang. Nevertheless, he is still protected by the leader of the yazuka throughout his childhood; because of sho's lineage.

This could also be made as to how the yazuka got their name; from Yazuke, the first black samurai. This can still be a comedic drama with suspense. It can also be a great opportunity to cast sho's love interest; a very curvaceous and glamorous Japanese model similar to Hiromi Oshima. Anyhow, good luck with your project.

Sho-Nuff, Bruce Leroy, early 80's Motown ala "Rhythm of the Night," a huge array of over the top goons and bad guys. This one really has great potential.

The acting from practically everyone in this is so terrible, it's a crime *not* to riff it. Julius Carry gets a pass since he's intentionally hamming it up.

Colonel Sanders/Mister T hybrid in the penultimate fight scene. I mean, C'MON. Sho (not Kasugi)? Bullets with his teeth? Kid breakdancing out of bonds? Vanity?? 1980s NYC? This movie has EVERYTHING. Gotta beats yo feetsa to Daddy Green's Pizza, pronto.

It's a blacksploitation, kung-fu movie. The main character is trying to increase his skills and acquire "the glow". With bullet-in-the-teeth catches, and a family that owns a pizza parlor (very important to the plot) it's so scattershot I'm pretty sure it's 4 movies smashed together. He's got a great theme song too, obviously written by the The Brevity Assoc., it goes "he's got the glow" in a sonorous tenor (not). Please check it out.
