Future Cops (1993)
You want a fever dream of Bootleg films? Here's one for the masses, fellow Riffers. Future Cops is a 1993 Hong Kong film that is summed up as Street Fighter II meets The Terminator and Doraemon... it makes sense in context.
One of the most bizarre films to ever embrace the Hong Kong action style, directed by Wong Jing (the same year he did the live-action City Hunter) and very very very loosely based on Street Fighter, in the sense that the characters look like Street Fighter characters, but they're not named after them, except for Chun Li, but only on the 'Chun' Future Cops is a rather unique experience.
Riff material package comes with:
- Lots and lots of Hong Kong famous pop singers/actors are in this such as Andy Lau, Dicky Cheung, Simon Yam, Ekin Cheng, Aaron Kwok and the God of Songs himself Jacky Cheung as Broom man (Not Guile)... Though to be fair, all of them are no stranger to martial art or action movies.
- The fact that this came BEFORE the Hollywood Movie with Jean-Claude Van Dammit!
- So Bad, It's Good Territory... well at least compared to Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Sorry Lana. (Define Irony: Robin Shou was in Legend of Chun-Li and sadly wasn't approached for any character in this bizarre Hong Kong film even though he was in Hong Kong around the time this film was made and he had already been in plenty of Hong Kong films before Mortal Kombat 1995)
