Death Cage 1988 (Bloodfight 2 in the UK)
There's a low budget film I watched recently in Cantonese and English. It's called Death Cage. Death Cage is a 1988 Hong Kong Martial Arts film starring Joe Lewis and Robin Shou. It goes by Bloodfight 2 in the UK, but the characters and plot have nothing to do with the first Bloodfight. Also, that version of the film is badly dubbed.
The plot of the film has plenty of Riff material, such as the cliché Rival gym trope, soundtrack dissonance, over-the-top fight scenes, death scenes that are almost on parr with Night of the Lepus death scenes, training montages, too many advertisements for Pepsi and Coco Cola, Vietnam War flashbacks, and the greatest one of all... JOE LEWIS! He's the biggest ham in the film and he spreads a lot of cheese on that ham sandwich.
Also, fun fact: There's a shot of Robin training at the same Thailand Temple used in the beginning scene in Mortal Kombat, where Shang Tsung kills Liu Kang's brother Chan. The audience sees the Temple when Si Han, the main character, fights... deep breath... The Monkey Fighter... it makes sense in Context and that is what the character is unfortunately credited as.
I wouldn't have mind seeing MST3K watch this film and have Robin Shou drop by in one of the segments as an ineffective Space Pirate or hacker, but I'm not sure he would want to guest star unless someone contacts him.
If anyone wants to see a Riff of this film, go ahead and comment down below. Thanks
