The submarine has full sized office stairwell and a drop ceiling. The effects are throwbacks to the 50’s and the plot makes leaps that Superman couldn’t.

-R. Lee Ermey is in this movie, to his eternal shame, playing the same hardass military officer he always plays.
--The crewmembers are supposed to be the best of the best of the best, but they can be seen doing such brilliant things as smoking on a submarine, using their high-tech magnifying goggles to stare at the token woman's arse, and touching the infectious mutant plant with their bare hands.
-As an Alien ripoff (or an Abyss ripoff made by people who never saw it and assumed it'd be Alien at the bottom of the sea), there are plenty of gross orifice monsters.
