Haunts of the Very Rich
This film would make for a wonderful, riff-filled experience. Several wealthy, yet haunted, people arrive at a strange tropical resort only to find... well, it's supposed to be terror, but sadly, no..not so much. Possibly an a half-hearted attempt to cash in on the anthology horror films from Amicus studios (Tales from the Crypt, Dr. Terror's House of Horrors, etc), this film just fails time after wonderfully awkward time.
Reasons, you ask?:
The cast: Ed Asner (boozy and grumpy), Chloris Leachman (very hip and groovy), Lloyd Bridges (boozy and lecherous), Anne Francis (wasted in this film), Robert Reed (channeling Elmer Gantry via Norman Bates), Donna Mills (embarrassed to be here)... and more!
Robert Reed playing perhaps the most repressed reverend ever committed to film. (And just what is a reverend doing at a swingin' resort anyway??)
It's a movie that refuses to just END!!!
And three bonus reasons:
The singer crooning the drippy theme song sounds like Kevin Murphy riff-singing (watch the trailer below if you don't believe me!).
It pre-dates Fantasy Island by a few years, but is so, so much worse.
The overall, boozy, lecherous, bad '70s vibe this film gives off.
Writhe at the lovely awfulness of the the clip:

Your right! It does sound like Kevin riff-singing! I love these old 70s TV movies. Sometimes they're good, sometimes you request them on RiffTrax. Either way, it's enjoyable.
