Romeo Must Die
There are Riffs abound here in this Very loose adaptation of Shakespeare's work.
Sadly the genuine chemistry between Aaliyah and Jet-Li only seems to make things more bizarre. While Aaliyah's brother seems to be played by a real-life version of Taye Diggs' character from 'Malibus Most Wanted' wanting us to know early on in the finest Julliard fashion how GANGSTER he is. His comically ridiculous death while smoking the fakest looking marijuana imaginable seems appropriate. What isn't is his grieving father seeing the body while backed by 70's funk porno music.
The entire score feels like a wild blend of Black Belt Jones and the Chinese Buffet up the street.
With just enough DMX to remind you that DMX cannot act I'd love to hear this riffed by the masters of their craft.
