One Magic Christmas
As a future Rifftrax Christmas special, I'd like to suggest "One Magic Christmas", a 1985 film that attempts to be a feel-good tale in which Santa Claus sends a Christmas angel to help a downtrodden mother rediscover the Christmas spirit by seeing what her life would be like under other circumstances... but unlike the "What if I was never born?" scenario of a more well-known holiday classic, this Christmas angel opts to show us the cheerful holiday vision of "What if my family were all tragically killed as victims of a botched bank robbery?"
But don't worry, the kids aren't dead! In fact, the angel arranges for them to visit Santa Claus at the North Pole, where the souls of the dead happily work making toys in his workshop. (What, you were expecting elves?) And Santa reassures the children that if their mom learns the lesson to properly appreciate Christmas, their slain father can be alive again! Hooray for the mangled theology of Christmas angel timeline magic!
Featuring Mary Steenburgen as the world-weary mom who doesn't appreciate Christmas, and with Harry Dean Stanton as the unintentionally creepy Christmas angel hobo in a dirty trenchcoat who sneaks into kids' rooms and asks them not to tell their parents about him!
