I’ve been browsing a few Japanese used car dealers lately as I’m thinking of importing something like a Toyota Aqua or maybe even a Suzuki Alto for city driving here in Manchester. Prices look decent compared to UK stock, but I’m a bit stuck on one thing… how do you properly check accident history on these cars?

Some listings mention “grade reports” and auction sheets, but I’m not sure how reliable they are once the car is already in the UK. Do dealers usually provide the original auction sheet, or is that something you have to request separately?

While comparing a few Japanese used car dealers, I came across this site https://www.nobukojapan.com
which seems to show auction cars and details, but I’m not fully sure how to read everything properly or what to trust.

Couple of things I’m unsure about:

Can you verify accident history through DVLA once it’s registered here?
Are auction sheets easy to decode or do you need experience?
Is it worth paying for a third-party inspection before buying?

Also, one more thing I’ve been wondering… it would be nice to know where my car is during shipping and when I can expect it to arrive. Do dealers usually provide tracking or updates once the car is on the way?

From what I’ve seen, some dealers do offer shipment tracking or at least regular updates, but it seems to vary quite a bit.

Would be great to hear how others here have handled this. I feel like I might be missing something important before going ahead.
