I'm worthy of reproach, but "Planet of the Vampires" is my favorite U.S.-Italian sci-fi movie with a twist ending. That's why I voted three whole times, using some form of reputation-based economics I don't understand.

In all seriousness, I think Alien owed a bit to this film (perhaps accidentally), but the always-night, wind-swept world with column-rocks everywhere is not unlike where the Nostromo crew landed, and the giant remains of a dead alien in an ancient crash site (also Alien-esque) was a fascinating and evocative piece of imagery to me as a kid, watching it on Bob Wilkin's Creature Feature. This notwithstanding the fact that finding the wrecked alien spacecraft was utterly irrelevant to the plot of the film. But were it not for such random conceits, "Planet of the Vampires" would not be worthy of being taken over your collective knees for a spanking. It's like what "Forbidden Planet" could have been, had it been produced by the creative team that brought us "Warriors of the Wasteland" (which itself was based loosely on "Macbeth"). Have you ever noticed that "Barb Wire" is literally the same story line as "Casablanca", with a neoprene-covered Pamela Sue Anderson in the role made immortal by Humphrey Bogart, and some unknown guy in the role parallel to Ingrid Bergman's, all set in a futuristic apocalyptic wasteland. Can you imagine the pitch session? "Hey guys! I've got this great idea..." But I digress. Please, please, bad people who make fun of what was someone's sad-but-earnest attempts to produce a piece of entertainment, please do "Planet of the Vampires". If you do... I'll.. um,.. watch it? OK, it's not a very good incentive, but I will watch it with every fibre of my being!
