Flannel Boards And How To Use Them
It may be only half the length of Setting Up A Room, but it has twice the tedium! I remember flannel boards from Sunday School, but this takes them to a whole new level!

Instant French
In keeping with the wackiness of shorts like Phoebe, this gives us a look at the strangeness of 1960s Canada culture. Bilingualism, mistresses, corporate intrigue, black & white film, plus an animated logo to take on Coronet and ACI. What could go wrong?
20+ minutes of pure madness to start your day right in our topsy turvy world today.

Jerry Pulls the Strings
A 1938 "short" film in which the grumpy owner of a coffee company refuses to let his daughter marry her sweetheart because he won't take a real job instead of playing with marionettes all day. The young man then wins him over by putting on a puppet show about the history and production of coffee. Features classic 1930s-era stereotypes and perhaps the creepiest goat puppet ever to grace the screen.
Can currently be seen on Amazon Prime in the "Puppet Movies" compilation.

Sooper Goop
Yeah, this one is a short I've seen when I was in elementary school called Sooper Goop.
This one discusses about the downside of 'kids' cereal' and how they pull out schemes to make kids want something they don't need.

Shoplifter (1975)
A short film made for the purpose of educating retail business owners and staff about shoplifting, shoplifters, and how to spot their myriad of techniques.
It depicts multiple women shoplifting items by holding them between their legs or stuffing them in their underwear.
The film also features a middle-aged man lurking in a grocery store air vent using binoculars with the supposed intent of theft prevention.
What more can I say?
A fair copy is available on YouTube to browse.

The Spirit of Christmas (1953, short from Bell Telephone)
This half-hour short was produced by Bell Telephone for the Philadelphia area (near me, as it turns out--our local PBS affiliate WHYY usually runs it even today). Except for a bit of live-action, it is performed mostly by marionettes.
The first half of this half-hour short (after an intro by some Bell executives, and a short prologue showing Clement Clarke Moore getting the inspiration for his new poem) is a dramatization of "A Visit From St. Nicholas", or, as we know it, "Twas The Night Before Christmas." This does have its charming moments--the miniature sets are quite lovely and detailed--but…

The Wickedest Witch
This NBC made for TV movie stars Rue McClanahan as the witch Avarissa, Paul Fusco's puppets (yes, the guy who did the show ALF), and has Burgess Meredith as the narrator. It'll be a quick riff (under 30 minutes), but a hilarious one.

Fork Lift Driver Klause
German: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DILjd69C0o
English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPpwLCvPAMEWhy riff it? (1) Twice as many hand amputations as Shake Hands with Danger. (2) Your pick of German dialog w/English subtitles, or an English dub with... amazing ... lip sync. (3) Previously unrecognized influence on other films, including the Black Knight scene from Search for the Holy Grail, and the Saw franchise.

Once Upon a Time (1934)
This obscure 1934 short, produced for MetLife, was made to remind its audiences about why people should be careful and courteous when driving through a rather absurd premise involving two goblins that look like dark-colored snowmen ("Discourtesy" and "Carelessness") wreaking havoc and getting fairy tale characters into wrecks. Why? I don't know.
You can find the film, as well as specific information, in this link below: https://www.filmpreservation.org/preserved-films/screening-room/once-upon-a-time-1934

Mrs. T. and her Cabbage Patch (BBC, 1941)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9xLQBUi6Ic
I think the official BFI YouTube description of it sells it better than I could:
Poetic tribute to Mrs Turner's vegetable growing prowess, plus the delights of "wartime steaks".Also: Mrs. T. I pity the fool who wouldn't consider riffing this!

Private Snafu or A Few Quick Facts (1942-1946)
Series of animated shorts used to educate WWII soldiers on many touchy, difficult subjects. PVT Snafu being voiced by the legendary Mel Blanc.
One has to be wary to not pick the shorts with obvious racist depictions of the Japanese army/navy/etc.... One episode was written by Dr. Seus.

What's The Big Hurry (1974)
This is a crazy short. It shows cars getting demolished at a junkyard. But the audio alternates between people's last words behind the wheel, Christmas music, and creepy electronic music.

Let's Face It (1954 Federal Civil Defense Administration Short)
Have you ever questioned the economic validity of building an entire city just to blow it up? Have you ever wanted to test the validity of building an entire city just to blow it up?
The film that gave us the iconic stock footage of houses being blasted to smithereens and made us realize that the atomic bomb was more than just sending Indiana Jones helluva far in a refrigerator. Consider this for what would really happen to Bert the Turtle if he was in the vicinity of this force of radiation.
The three reasons why I suggest this film…

The Finishing Line
This is a seriously F***ed up British PSA about children playing on railroad tracks. This kid daydreams about holding his own Olympics on a train crossing. Dozens of children get killed. It's both horrifying and surreal.

The American Heart Association's current BLS (Basic Life Saving) video
There are various skits with live actors about someone who becomes unresponsive and needs CPR, only when the actor or actress actually starts doing CPR, the person in need of help is switched out for a mannequin, which is suddenly wearing the person's clothes and and is in the same position the person was just in! This effect was especially creepy for the baby- CPR skit. Our entire class was laughing so hard it hurt!
