  1. Why Study Home Economics? (1955)

Again from Young America, the companion piece to MST3K's "Why Study Industrial Arts?" Just as in that film, a high schooler consults with the home ec teacher, who seems to be convincing herself more than the audience of the need for her classes. You have to love the 50's sentiment of the high school girl who is convinced that she's going to be a "homemaker all her life," and that her first home may be (gasp) a TRAILER (!!!) And I love the unexplained southern accent that the girl's sister speaks with (and what is up with her…

  3. The Attitude Factor (1981)

A school bus safety film about the attitudes of bus drivers focuses most of its story on a driver named Barbara Blackstone. It begins with Barbara, a lady with a positive attitude, winning an award for "best all-around driver"; by the end, she is worn down by the mother of a special needs child who constantly complains she's late. Barbara's meltdown to misery is a spectacle to behold and great material for riffing. The short is on YouTube.

  4. Liebe 2002

It's a mockumentary from East Germany, the communistic part of it about how they imagined love to work in the year 2002.

It's incredibly cheesy tongue in cheek.

It has a weird futuristic visions with ballet dancers from the future, robots and computers contrasted by the 1970s and the olden days.

It's been produced by DEFA and a copy can be found on their Youtube channel:

  5. "Gung Ho" by Steve French

It's an Australian take on "Tom and Jerry", with certain twists on the formula.

    1. The mouse only goes out because his wife is bickering about cheese.
    2. It's slapstick with a disabled cat.
    3. The ending is fairly harmonious with both bonding over a bottle of "*** catnip".

The movie is distributed as part of the Kaboodle series by the Australian Children's Television Foundation. A copy of that segment can be found here:

  6. Captain America (15 part serial)

Let me set the Stage. It’s the mid 1940’s, WWII is raging, and there’s this publication group called Timely Comics. It’s still decades away before they adopt a more “Marvel-ous” name, but for now they have this new character they call Captain America who they think will make waves. Timely wants to make a serial for Cap, Republic has made tons of serials, what could go wrong?

Hilariously, Republic threw out literally everything about Captain America for the serial. Sure he mostly has his costume, but this is not Steve Rogers the super soldier fighting the Nazis with the help…

  7. Speedy Cutover service

The cheesy 70s music, the suspense from a heist movie...what is it? A bond film? No its the speedy cutover team, switching from old technology to new. Watch the action as the specially sharpened cutters slice through cables at breakneck pace. Watch the supervisor wipe sweat from his brow in suspence. Will they cut all the cables correctly? Will any emergency calls not be able to go through? Find out!

  8. Traveling vacations short

This short from the 50s is about a man who ruins a ladies painting at the beach, then stalks her , accidentally destroys her fathers car and tows them in their travel trailer all over the country. The girl hates him the entire time. It’s done in that “ain’t it neat” 50s style. And it is ripe for destruction.

  10. Target...Austin, Texas (1960)

The folks at Rifftrax haven't riffed a civil defense short in a while. This ultra-low budget one was filmed in Austin, Texas for a local TV station. In spite of the grim subject matter, there's enough weirdness to riff over, like the extremely cramped fallout shelter in one family's home, the secretary who freaks out during the bombing (and turns into an extra from CARNIVAL OF SOULS), and (most especially) the idiot who disobeys all orders, and essentially winds up as compost. The full short can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCQePqXEwwA .

  11. Let's Make a Meal in 20 Minutes & Let's Make a Sandwich (1950)

"Let's Make a Meal in 20 Minutes" AND "Let's Make a Sandwich" from our friends at Simmel-Meservey, makers of the MST3K favorite "A Date with Your Family." Speaking of which, both shorts star "Daughter" from that timeless classic (and the sandwich short also features "Mother"). Both show the viewer the fun that can go into the preparation of food, no matter how unappetizing the final result is. Each short is only about 4 minutes long, so pairing them would be a good idea. And they're both public domain, to boot! Let's Make a Sandwich: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz4SYkwSxTM

  14. Jack Brooks: Monster slayer

An Uber cheesy horror comedy that desperately calls for a Rifftrax commentary. You can’t go wrong with Robert Englund aka Freddy Krueger as the hapless, creepy guy as one of the main characters. Yet, somehow the film falls a bit short. Cmon guys put your mark on this beast!

  15. Electrojuice

In 1991, someone decided it would be a good idea to make an "educational film" about the dangers of electricity using a Beetlejuice knockoff as the villain (and kind of the teacher as well). This so-bad-it's-good short is roughly a half-hour and is ripe for Rifftrax treatment.

  18. Running For Empties (1988)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utbT3IL3P2Y

This is a 9 minute short from New Zealand about two schoolboys and a man in short shorts who deliver glass bottles of milk.

It is wholesome, sincere, and grounded, yet it has several over the top moments. Like an animation of the van turning into a spaceship. Or a cat knocking a bottle off a wall.

It ends on a note that soon people will be able to buy milk from grocery stores, leaving the kids (and the viewer) as witnesses to the end of an era.

  19. Mannix

The MST3K crew often made references to "Mannix," one of my all-time favorite shows. Why not do a riff on an episode of that classic series? Season 1 had Mannix working for a hi-tek detective agency. Mannix's specialty was insubordination. Season 2 onward he was on his own, with a regular stable of frenemy lieutenants, and oddly colored sportjackets.

  20. My Santa (2005- ) AKA Itsudatte my Santa

Santa is a magical girl in this two-episode anime/OVA for Christmas later this year? Yep. There's an English dub. And, the protagonist is also named Santa. Six months' worth of story arcs in two short episodes.
