  1. Shoujo Commando Izumi (1987-1988)

    Superpowered high-school girl trained as an assassin. Tons of 80s explosions. Fights with garrot and the occasional rocket launcher.

    Maybe an episode or two.

  2. It's Wonderful Being a Girl

    Oh, this brings back a memory! In 5th grade, the girls got a note that they were going to the auditorium to see this film while we were stuck in class. As the Paul McCartney song "Girls' School" says, "they put the papers on the window"! I remember being jealous that the girls got their own movie.
    When I asked one of the girls what the movie was about, I got a very terse "none of your business"! This would make a great short to riff -- although it might be safer for Bridget and Mary Jo to do it!

  7. Smith School of driving (ca. 1960)

    The "world famous" Smith School of driving is still active, so I doubt you could get permission, but the old-school driver's ed. films (somewhere from mid-'50s to late '60s I'd guess) are pretty damned funny, and ripe pickin's fer riffin'. Smith is a cantankerous pedant who likes to refer to trucks as "billboards" and admonishes drivers to "give the signal" (presumably their middle finger) at parked motorists as they pass. Nothing tops the combination of educational film cheese, with middle america values cheese, with ****** mid-century car cheese, with an over-determined and "five point system" taken all too seriously cheese,…

  10. Fork Lift Driver Klause

    German: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DILjd69C0o
    English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPpwLCvPAME

    Why riff it? (1) Twice as many hand amputations as Shake Hands with Danger. (2) Your pick of German dialog w/English subtitles, or an English dub with... amazing ... lip sync. (3) Previously unrecognized influence on other films, including the Black Knight scene from Search for the Holy Grail, and the Saw franchise.

  11. TheJoker

    Not the pretentious art film, but the B&W daddy of "Shake Hands With Danger", released as a safety short by US Steel. It stars Hans Conreid as the harbinger of injury and compensation. Accidents and camp abound, and it makes you long for a universe where Hans played the Batman nemesis.

  12. Barbie and the Rockers: Out of This World/Barbie and the Sensations

    Okay. This is a more of a blatant push to get people to watch Alison Pregler's YouTube channel. But since it's a two part set of shorts where Barbie travels to outerspace to a flower shaped space station and then accidentally travels back to the 1950s? I think Mary Jo Pehl and Bridget Nelson would work wonders on a perfect rifftrax commentary track.

  13. Once Upon a Time (1934)

    This obscure 1934 short, produced for MetLife, was made to remind its audiences about why people should be careful and courteous when driving through a rather absurd premise involving two goblins that look like dark-colored snowmen ("Discourtesy" and "Carelessness") wreaking havoc and getting fairy tale characters into wrecks. Why? I don't know.

    You can find the film, as well as specific information, in this link below: https://www.filmpreservation.org/preserved-films/screening-room/once-upon-a-time-1934

  16. action max

    The Action Max is a home video game console using VHS tapes for games. It was manufactured in 1987 by Worlds of Wonder. The system had a very limited release outside the U.S.

    Five VHS cassettes were released for the system:

    .38 Ambush Alley, a police target range;
    Blue Thunder, based on the eponymous 1983 motion picture;
    Hydrosub: 2021, a futuristic underwater voyage;
    The Rescue of Pops Ghostly, a comic haunted-house adventure;
    Sonic Fury, aerial combat, bundled with the system.
    A planned sixth cassette, Fright Night (possibly based on the 1985 horror film of the same name), was unreleased at…

  18. Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941)

    I have really been enjoying the Batman and Robin serial you guys riffed, so I thought maybe you guys could do Captain Marvel before he got renamed Shazaam! From clips I have seen of this one, Captain Marvel is one ******* superhero as he is played by a weightlifter so we get to watch him throw actual people across the room! Better still, he does not play around, cross him and he'll throw you off a cliff or use a machine gun to gun you down as you try to flee! Would make for a totally awesome riff!

  19. Play Safe

    Before "Shake Hands with Danger" (1980) and even before "Last Clear Chance" (1959), there was "PLAY SAFE" (1936), from the same studio that brought you Betty Boop and Popeye.

    "PLAY SAFE" is the charming public-domain animated tale of a boy and his dog . . . as they navigate a hellscape of anthropomorphic demon trains who just want to warn the young fellow that it's dangerous to fall unconscious on the train tracks! All of this cautionary whimsy is set to a musical score that sounds like Minnie the Moocher's drunk uncle, Vinny.

  20. The Bug and The Beetle

    70s somber GM internal corporate film where Chevrolet takes a look at how it thought the foreign invaders, “The Bug” and the “Japanese Beetles” (Toyota and Datsun) could easily put the automaker out of business.
