  1. Write On! The TV Ontario TV Shorts

Coming from the bizarre realm of the 70s PBS/GRETA Dimension, I submit to RiffTrax: Write On! The TV Ontario Shorts.

Just as aci attempted to educate on reading with From Left to Right, Write On was basically a series of shorts which was supposed to educate on grammar and punctuation.

This shindig took place within a mythical newspaper building with a cranky editor, and two reporters. One of them known as Jack, was sort of a Walter Mitty type, since some of the shorts would take place in his wild imagination.

Basically it usually had the group in inexplicable situations…

  2. Plane Talk

The unholy alliance between the airline industry and the phone company. A chubby guy needs a bigger seat belt so they plane can take off! https://youtu.be/r10wAV9rZKM

  3. Are You Listening

A horrifying giant mouth teaches horrifying giant ears about the importance of listening to directions. There's also weird superfluous footage of animals in a zoo, because why not?

  4. Mission Possible - Bike Safety

It's an educational short about bicycle safety made in the style of the old Mission Impossible TV show.
    http://www.texasarchive.org/library/index.php?title=MissionPossible-BikeSafety
This short film was produced and directed by J. Larry Carroll, who also wrote episodes for shows like G.I. Joe and Diagnosis Murder.

  5. The Nutshack

I'm not sure if this counts as a short, it's a TV show, but I couldn't find a TV show suggestion function. So anyway, this is one of the worst cartoons ever made, and I think you could get some material out of this.

  9. Dick Tracy Serials

    http://dicktracy.info/on-film/cliffhanger-serials/
These serials start in 1937, starring our friend from Jungle Goddess, Ralph Byrd (Aka Bob Simpson, the racist murderer). Since you riffed Ancient Batman...it behooves you (whatever behooves means) to take on one of these 15 episode serials!

  10. Video games Cut scenes

Riffing the cut scenes of big name current video games. From Destiny and Halo to Grand Theft Auto and Assassins Creed. A compilation would be just great I think.

  11. You In Public Service

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8rahERQ8n4

This is a whole series of educational films meant for people in public service jobs. The one I've linked to gives an overview of the whole series, but the only one I've actually seen all of is the grooming one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACQNZDR_qg0). Between the four hosts looking like a bad version of Sesame Street, the feeble attempts at comedy, the animated bit straight out of Schoolhouse Rock, and the musical numbers, the whole series could spawn some great riffing.

  12. Dating Do's And Don'ts

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxBOSdl-b54

The lead character's name is Woody. There are probably at least ten good jokes in that alone. One of those dating etiquette shorts that offers divergent time lines in how to choose, ask for, and end a date

  13. Jay Can Do It

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3JGYtJrydY - Honestly, I don't know exactly why this movie was made, which is why it'd be perfect riff material. A rather dumb looking kid has a bunch of experiences that don't seem to be connects, from baking cookies to meeting a policeman. The only explanation I have for it is that it's a time capsule for some alien race. Hilariously bad.

  14. The Finishing Line

This is a seriously F***ed up British PSA about children playing on railroad tracks. This kid daydreams about holding his own Olympics on a train crossing. Dozens of children get killed. It's both horrifying and surreal.

  17. Greenwich Village

15 min short shown on TCM Sept 11 at 5:45am EDT. Early 70s in all its fashion glory, extolling the charms of quaint Greenwich Village, a suburban oasis in the big city (not the way I remember it in the 70s). It takes some doing but I THINK I finally identified it as promoting cotton as a fabric. I'm not making that up.

  18. Electric Eel

The Moody Institute, who did the Carnivorous Plants short, put out a similar short about the electric eel, featuring the same weird guy poking an eel and shocking people

  19. The American Heart Association's current BLS (Basic Life Saving) video

There are various skits with live actors about someone who becomes unresponsive and needs CPR, only when the actor or actress actually starts doing CPR, the person in need of help is switched out for a mannequin, which is suddenly wearing the person's clothes and and is in the same position the person was just in! This effect was especially creepy for the baby- CPR skit. Our entire class was laughing so hard it hurt!

  20. Garlic is as Good as Ten Mothers

It's 51 minute foodie documentary from 1980 (and it looks it too).

It's a love story to garlic (which as depicted wasn't really a big trend in the US back in the 1970s and earlier if you believe the talking heads).

One talking head mentions that he believes that vampires are real. Werner Herzog also makes a cameo.

Lots of dialogueless food prep providing plenty of space for riffing.
