Hell-Bent For Election (1944)
Something different from animator Chuck Jones: an allegorical PSA about voting for FDR. It's actually quite good (one of the first cartoons from the studio that became UPA), but very "old timey," and those always are good for riffing.

Raggedy Ann and Andy (1941)
This Fleischer cartoon gives "Fun in Balloonland" a run for its money in the sheer insanity department. There's a character with a pair of scissors for a head, and Ann and Andy are SEWN TOGETHER at the end.

It's a 30 minute video tape that came with a board game back in the 80s. It's really cheesy and perfect.

Along the way, the canoe meets people and has adventures.

Janet and the Food Genie (1967)
Janet may as well be Henry Slinkman's daughter. Her mother has sent her to the grocery store but she doesn't know what food grades mean!
Fortunately, she can count on the help of an animated Food Genie. He takes her on a whirlwind tour of food processing plants and laboratories where she learns all about how food is graded. She must have been collecting the groceries during her factory visits because the film ends with her putting the groceries away.
The genie is barely animated, and those animations are recycled a lot. Location shots are intermingled with stock fotage. An…

Catweazle
I'm an American/Dutch dual citizen, living in Holland for ten years and the US west coast for fifty years before that.
My Dutch husband called one of our kitties "Catweazle" this evening, and I asked him what on earth he was talking about. It turns out that "Catweazle" was a British-made children's show from the early '70s that he watched on TV as a small child.
I watched Season 1, Episode 1 of "Catweazle" (oh, I never get tired of typing that name!) on YouTube, and it was fifteen minutes of riff-worthy delight.
I had never heard of this show…

"This Is Coffee" - An instructional short about how you're making coffee wrong.
An alternate title for this short could be "Go to Hell French Press"
At first, this 12 minute short celebrates the diverse styles of coffee and the many ways to enjoy it.
But then it insists that there's only the one Coffee Brewing Institute approved method to make a cup of coffee using one of three types of coffee pots. Anything else doesn't count as coffee.

Private Snafu or A Few Quick Facts (1942-1946)
Series of animated shorts used to educate WWII soldiers on many touchy, difficult subjects. PVT Snafu being voiced by the legendary Mel Blanc.
One has to be wary to not pick the shorts with obvious racist depictions of the Japanese army/navy/etc.... One episode was written by Dr. Seus.

Advertising: What it's Doing to your Life, with Blonde Ronald Reagan. AKA Anyone who hates ads is more evil than the commies.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8cqk0uIuso
This educational/indoctrination short is a blend of lectures and old advertisements that lays it on thick
Advertising is equated with: more money for government services thru taxes, the development of new cake mixes, a means to keep Kruschev from burying us, and a way for married men to stare at women so they can feel better about loveless marriages.
Last but not least, if you don't support advertising than a little kid with cerebral palsy will never be able to walk normally. Do you want that on your conscious?!?

Getting Off on the Right Foot (1972)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rx57jVGfso
In case “Last Clear Chance” and “Days of Our Years” weren’t enough, here’s another western railroad short from the days before mounting and dismounting moving equipment was banned. There’s a very good reason that practice was banned: knees and ankles. Also, it shows LA in the early 1970s, particularly the extra-nice parts of town where the railroad yards were. And finally, if it gets the safety message out, it deserves to be shown.18 votes -
